A Message from this Years
Re Our Open Weeks in
July and September and of course our Weekly Open Friday
Singles Stableford Competition and our Open Seniors
Competition which is held on the first Wednesday
of every month.
Aidan Dunphy and Lady Captain
Bernie Carroll look forward to welcoming visitors and members
to this wonderful parklands course in the midlands. The course staff
have been working tirelessly over the past few years to ensure that
everything is in pristine condition for these events. Members greatly
appreciate the tremendous work of greenkeeper David Greene and our
Course Committee and Volunteers in this regard.
The course itself offers a great challenge to all range of golfers.
The course is laid out on rolling landscape with plenty of mature
trees and some great water features all of which add to it’s
attraction. Many visitors have commented on the great condition
of the greens and the surrounding bunkers, some of which have been
redesigned during the past few years.
When drawing up our Open Week Programmes the committee will make
sure that there will be a variety of competitions including classics,
singles, fourballs, scrambles and the very popular champagne classic.
Our Open Friday Singles Competition is a Singles Stableford event.
Abbeyleix is a club where younger players are appreciated
and encouraged. There are many competitions organised for juniors
and there is a special juvenile day in July.
The committee are extremely grateful to all the sponsors, some of
whom have been supporting the club for many years. Without their
support the running of open week would be almost impossible. In
these recessionary times sponsors deserve not just gratitude but
tangible support as well.
Abbeyleix prides itself on it’s hospitality and visitors are
assured of a great welcome from PJ Peacock. and
his bar staff either before or after a round of golf. Full catering
is available all week from Martin and the catering
staff. The clubhouse always looks blooming for open week, thanks
to the continued supply of fresh flowers from Lalors Florists, Durrow.
Buggies and carry carts are available for hire, prior booking is
For those who wish to join the club there are many attractive new
